Voters in a handful of Van Buren County communities will consider a mix of tax proposals and a city council race in the May 5 election.
In the Village of Paw Paw, residents are being asked to renew and slightly adjust a parks millage that supports maintenance, operations, and improvements. The proposal would continue the current parks levy and add a small increase to restore reductions required under the Headlee Amendment through 2030. If approved, the millage is expected to generate roughly $157,000 in its first year, with funds directed to the village’s park system.
Meanwhile, voters for Gobles Public Schools will decide on a 10-year renewal of the district’s operating millage. The proposal allows the district to continue levying up to 18 mills on non-homestead properties. The district says the levy would generate about $1.27 million in 2027 if approved.
Also, in Bangor, two candidates are running for the city council. Patricia Martinez-Serratos and William Murphy Jr. are both seeking a three-year term and will appear on the ballot.
