1917 – The world’s most famous spy, Mata Hari was executed. She had been convicted of spying for Germany during World War I and executed by firing squad in France. She refused a blindfold and blew a kiss to the firing squad before her execution.
1940 – Charlie Chaplin released the film The Great Dictator starring himself.
1952 – Children’s author E.B. White published Charlotte’s Web about a relationship between a spider and a pig.
