 1521, Spanish conquistador Hernando Cortes captured what is now known as Mexico City from the Aztecs.

1914, genius Carl Wickman began using his beat-up gray car, which no one would buy, to take miners from their homes to mines in Minnesota.  His “Taxi” service took off, and he was soon able to buy more cars to service the mineworkers.  His little business is now known as the Greyhound Bus Corporation.

1926 Cuban president Fidel Castro was born. It is said he was so opposed to capitalism that after conquering Cuba, he ordered the destruction of all Monopoly games on the island.

1982 Fast Times at Ridgemont High debuted.

 

 Music History:

1992 Neil Diamond played the first of six sold out nights at Madison Square Garden in New York. He made more than 40 million from touring that year, the second highest in the music industry behind U2’s 62 million. (Of course, Taylor Swift has blown that total away many times in the last few years!)
