1992 The Mall of America, the biggest shopping mall in the country, opened in Bloomington, Minnesota.

1973 The movie American Graffiti was released. George Lucas’ low-budget semi-autobiographical story of coming of age in the early 1960s and has become one of the most profitable films of all time. The star-studded cast included Richard Dreyfuss, Ron Howard, Harrison Ford, Cindy Williams, Suzanne Somers and Wolfman Jack.

The movie soundtrack featured 44 songs including: Surfin’ Safari, Johnny B. Goode, At the Hop, The Stroll and perhaps its biggest hit, Rock Around the Clock!
