1845 The U.S. Naval Academy opened at Annapolis, Maryland.

1920 The First World Series Bases-Loaded Grand Slam. It came from Cleveland’s Elmer John Smith against Brooklyn. The first World Series Unassisted triple play happened in the 5th inning of that same game.

1934 3-year-old Billie Thomas appeared at an open audition for the Little Rascals and is selected to play Buckwheat by producer Hal Roach. He died of a heart attack at age 49 on October 10, 1980, exactly 46 years to the day of his audition.

 

Music History:

1970 The Carpenters were topping the U.S. singles charts with “We’ve Only Just Begun.’ The song became a huge hit for weddings in the 70’s.
