Starting Monday will be a repaving project on the I-196 Business Loop in South Haven. Michigan Department of Transportation spokesperson Nick Schirripa tells us they’ll be fixing up the road from 15th Avenue to 73rd Street.

“That includes the ramps at Phoenix Street at exit 20,” Schirripa said. “There also is going to be some concrete replacement at the I-196 BL intersection at Blue Star Highway, the Phoenix Street intersection, and that’s kind of in the middle of [the project]. So, not for the entire project, but for a piece of it, and that certainly will cause a little of a headache for folks.”

Schirripa says the work will result in some detours at different stages throughout the project. The $5.1 million work starts Monday and will run through late June. You can find the full detour list here, although MDOT will have it posted when the time comes. Schirripa says the project will result in a smoother drive and improved safety.
