Golf carts will be allowed on the streets in South Haven from March 15 until November 15 in 2023. The City Council approved the extension along with banning carts from towing other carts and anything else by a 5-3 vote. Councilwoman Wendi Onuki did not want the longer season for the carts.
“To me, it just doesn’t make sense to do it at this point, especially with the weather in March being questionable and the weather in October’s questionable,” said Onuki. “I know we’re giving them a choice to make a good decision in bad weather. Some might make a good choice, and some might not.”
Councilman Joe Reeser and Councilwoman Letitia Wilkins joined her in voting no for the same reason. Mayor Scott Smith said if the weather is good, people will want to get out and be in their carts. Public comment was also the same as Onuki and Reeser’s remarks against the longer period for carts.
