Michigan State University president Samuel Stanley says he stands by his actions including forcing the resignation of the Broad School of Business dean for not reporting sexual harassment allegations quickly. Stanley spoke to the faculty yesterday, but did not address if he will retire as several members of the Board of Trustees are pushing him to do. He said the Board of Trustees is the issue, not him, and says some members “may not have actually complied with their part of the state requirements in 2021” concerning making sure the university complies with Title Nine. Trustee Dr. Rema Vasser says there was enough concern about Stanley’s Title IX issues to ask him to retire early.
93% of the faculty senate voted to approve an advisory resolution opposing any efforts to fire Stanley or ask him to resign.
