The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is expanding COVID-19 vaccine eligibility this month. It says starting on Monday, the vaccines will be offered to anyone age 50 and older with medical conditions or disabilities and family who care for children with special healthcare needs. Then on Monday, March 20, anyone age 50 or older can have the vaccine. Berrien County Health Department spokesperson Gillian Conrad tells WSJM News it will take a little time to get to everyone eligible, but the department can keep up with the state timetable.
“We are planning on moving forward with these new eligibility groups as were announced by the state of Michigan, and here in Berrien County that will start to happen next week and into the weeks and months to follow,” Conrad said.
Conrad says those now being made eligible should keep an eye on the Berrien County Health Department website and Facebook page for information on signing up.
“As the Berrien County Health Department continues to work through the finer details of how we will ensure that those in these new eligibility groups will be able to make appointments, stay tuned for more information later this week and into early next week. We will be making further announcements about the process for signing up for appointments.”
Conrad says it will become easier to get vaccinated as more vaccine shipments come into the state. The first Johnson and Johnson doses arrived in Michigan Wednesday. Conrad says the health department is expecting to get some of that vaccine. It advises people to get whichever vaccine they can when they can. You can learn more at Michigan.gov/COVIDVaccine.
