Cooking a Thanksgiving dinner this year costs around 4% less than last year according to an American Farm Bureau Federation survey. They found a classic dinner costs $46.90 to feed 10 people, which is under $5 per person. Not only is it lower than last year, it’s the lowest cost for the meal since 2010. Turkey is down 7% for a 16-pound bird at $19.39, while whipping cream and sweet potatoes are down 16% and 8% respectively and a four-pound ham is about the same as last year. AFBF also found purchasing turkeys from a meal-delivery service will cost a person 64% more at $1.99 per pound or 42% higher for the overall Thanksgiving dinner. Thanksgiving dinners will be smaller this year due to COVID-19 restrictions. Part of the reason is due to the November 15 emergency order from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, which limited gatherings to two households at any one time.
