Governor Gretchen Whitmer talked about the past, present, and future at this week’s Pancakes and Politics forum, put on by the Michigan Chronicle.

When asked about her plans when she leaves office, Whitmer said that’s not her focus right now, but she is leaving the door open.

We’ve still got to get a budget done,” Whitmer said. “We’ve got a lot of work to do — I‘m looking at Senator Camilleri — there because we both have lists of things that we want to get accomplished before the end of this year. And then I’m going to take a minute and think about what is next for me. I don’t know that I’ll put my name on the ballot again. I’m just not sure. But I also am 54 years old. I got a lot of gas in the tank. I care a lot about the state of Michigan, and I’m going to stay active one way or another.”

The governor also addressed several of other topics, including data centers. Whitmer said she understands many people don’t want them here, but she believes Michigan has an opportunity to be the model for how data centers can be built in a way that won’t hurt communities or the environment.
