Southwestern Michigan College is inviting the public to a special Academic Speaker Series event on Tuesday, April 14, to highlight the role of women in the U.S. military as part of the nation’s 250th anniversary celebration.

The program will feature retired Chief Warrant Officer Five Rhea Pruett and historian Laura Ritchie, both Michigan ambassadors for the Military Women’s Memorial in Arlington, Virginia.

SMC says Ritchie focuses on preserving and sharing the often-overlooked stories of women who served, while Pruett brings nearly 40 years of military experience, including becoming the first woman in Michigan — and one of the first in the nation — to reach the rank of Chief Warrant Officer Five.

Everyone’s invited to the presentation, which will be begin at 6 p.m. on the 14th in the Dale A. Lyons Building theatre on the Dowagiac campus.

A Q&A session will follow the presentation.
