More than 2,300 patients of Corewell Health around Michigan have now signed up to be organ donors through the system’s MyChart service.

Corewell Director of Apps and Platforms Michelle Rizor tells us they implemented this ability in MyChart back in October and she’s glad to see people using it.

It’s been incredibly humbling and wonderful to see the generosity of folks that have already signed up to do this via MyChart,” Rizor said. “Having this sign-up in MyChart has made it even simpler and more seamless to register for this, and it’s just incredible to see our communities looking out for each other and interested in helping to save lives.”

Rizor says the option is available in all MyChart accounts, which are integrated at Corewell Health locations throughout Michigan. And using the MyChart option does more than sign a patient up for the state’s organ donor registry.

“When folks use MyChart to become an organ donor, they’re actually added to the National Donate Life Registry. The benefit of this is that this donor registration status travels with you, even if you’re moving outside of Michigan or you happen to be traveling.”

Rizor says there are nearly 2,700 people in Michigan and more than 100,000 people in the United States waiting for an organ transplant.

You can sign up to be an organ donor via MyChart by clicking the Health Summary option within the service. From there, scroll down.
