Tigers 10, Astros 0 – Jack Flaherty’s strong start, 4 homers lead Tigers to 10-0 rout of Astros
Jack Flaherty struck out nine batters in seven scoreless innings and the Detroit Tigers went on to beat the Houston Astros 10-0 on Monday night. Wenceel Pérez, Riley Greene, Trey Sweeney and Colt Keith homered for the Tigers, who were coming off a 5-2 road trip. Flaherty allowed three hits and a walk to win for the second time in 12 starts. Former closer Alex Lange, who underwent lat surgery last season, pitched the ninth — his first MLB appearance since May 22, 2024. Spencer Arrighetti gave up five runs on seven hits and four walks in five innings.

White Sox 13, Braves 9 – White Sox hammer struggling Strider in 13-9 win over Braves
Luis Robert Jr. homered to spark a six-run fourth inning and the Chicago White Sox beat the Atlanta Braves 13-9. Robert followed Andrew Benintendi’s leadoff single against a struggling Spencer Strider with his 13th homer to put Chicago up 3-0. Mike Tauchman drove in two with a bases-loaded double, and Lenyn Sosa’s two-out RBI single made it 7-0. Brooks Baldwin hit his eighth home run, a leadoff shot in the third to give Chicago the lead. Sosa hit his 17th homer, a three-run drive off Austin Cox in the sixth for a 10-1 advantage. Kyle Teel and Benintendi both had four of Chicago’s 19 hits.

Brewers 7, Cubs 0 – Peralta earns MLB-best 15th win as Brewers blank Cubs 7-0. Game 2 of scheduled twinbill ppd
Freddy Peralta allowed one hit in six innings for his major league-leading 15th win, and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Chicago Cubs 7-0. Milwaukee won for the 15th time in 16 games and extended its NL Central lead to nine over the rival Cubs. The teams were scheduled to play a split doubleheader at Wrigley Field, but the nightcap was postponed due to a forecast of inclement weather. It will be made up Tuesday afternoon as the first game of a day-night doubleheader. Peralta struck out six as Milwaukee improved to an MLB-best 79-45. Brice Turang and Caleb Durbin homered for the Brewers, who have won 23 of 28 since the All-Star break.

Bengals 31, Commanders 17 – Burrow directs two TD drives, Bengals outlast Daniels’ Commanders for 31-17 win
Joe Burrow and Jayden Daniels, Heisman Trophy-winning quarterbacks from LSU, headlined the “Monday Night Football” matchup in the second preseason game for each team. Daniels scored a 14-yard rushing touchdown, but Burrow led two touchdown drives in the Bengals’ 31-17 win over the Commanders. Both teams have high-profile players out amid contract disputes, Cincinnati DE Trey Hendrickson and Washington WR Terry McLaurin.

NFL – Matthew Stafford practices with Rams in QB’s first team workout of preseason
Matthew Stafford practiced with the Los Angeles Rams on Monday, marking the quarterback’s first workout with the team this preseason after sitting out because of a sore back. Stafford, 37, took first-team reps during the session and did not speak to reporters afterward. Coach Sean McVay said it was too soon to know what the session means for Stafford’s status going forward.

NFL – Lions rookie edge rusher Hassanein out with pectoral injury
Detroit Lions rookie edge rusher Ahmed Hassanein’s status for the season may be in question after he sustained a pectoral injury in Saturday’s preseason loss. Coach Dan Campbell said on Monday that Hassanein, the first Egyptian drafted into the NFL, will be down for “a while.” Hassanein was selected in the sixth round to help shore up the edge rusher position.

NCAAFB – Michigan’ Bryce Underwood tops list of freshmen that can make quick impact
Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood might not need much time to get a chance to justify his status as the nation’s No. 1 recruit in his class. Underwood has spent this summer competing for the right to start the Wolverines’ Aug. 30 season opener with New Mexico. That follows an outstanding high school career in which Underwood threw for 11,488 yards and 152 touchdowns while leading Belleville to a 50-4 record and two Michigan state championships. The 6-foot-4 freshman heads our list of freshmen who could make a major impact this season.

NCAAFB – Sayin  will be Buckeye starting quarterback
Julian Sayin will be Ohio State’s starting quarterback when the No. 3 Buckeyes open the season against top-ranked Texas on Aug. 30. Coach Ryan Day made the announcement Monday. Day, who is in his seventh year leading the Buckeyes, said Sayin was more consistent in the competition with Lincoln Kienholz but there was some separation over the past week. Sayin played in four games last season, including the College Football Playoff first-round game against Tennessee. He was 5 for 12 for 84 yards and one touchdown while taking 27 snaps.WNBA – Women’s National Basketball Association
