There will be stepped up enforcement over the holidays for drunk or impaired driving.

The Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign runs through New Year’s. Michigan State Police Lieutenant Mike Shaw says they’ve seen a rise in impaired drivers.

If you’re going to go out there and have a good time over the holiday season, just go out there and have a designated driver,” Shaw said. “Go out there and get a ride share. Take somebody, make a plan so if you do smoke marijuana or you do drink alcohol at that party that you can safely get home and not get behind the wheel.”

From 2019 to 2023, there were 30 people killed in traffic crashes in Michigan during the holidays. 13 were in crashes that involved alcohol and or drug impairment.
