The South Haven Rotary has named its Rotarian of the Year.
Jerry Gruber has been selected for the honor for his continued efforts with the club. Gruber, who has been involved with the club for 25 years, told us he was elated to receive the award and called rewarding to be recognized for his work.
“It’s a club that’s not only active for our community and what we do with each other and self-service beyond self, it’s also a club that enjoys socializing together,” Gruber said. “So, we get to know each other after hours and it makes a great extended family.”
While being a member for quarter century, Gruber has served in many capacities, including as the president of the rotary club in 2005-2006. He described his time as club president as a full time job, but says he enjoyed being involved in that role.
Gruber says as years go by, the club has grown. He wasn’t expecting to be named Rotarian of the Year.
“I was surprised, actually. I was overwhelmed and so appreciative that they think that it’d be worthy to give me that type of honor. I appreciate that and I accept it with reservations of my enjoyment of belonging to and helping out with our club.”
The South Haven Rotary Club supports a variety of festivals, arts, schools, and scholarships within the South Haven community. Gruber said it’s an excellent organization to get involved with, and is a great way to do more within the community.
