Congressman Tim Walberg is speaking out against some of the protests taking place on college campuses around the United States as the war between Israel and Hamas drags on.

Speaking to News Nation this week, Walberg said some of the rhetoric used by protesters goes beyond the bounds of calling for a ceasefire.

The debate that’s going on can be good at times,” Walberg said. “Demonstrations are normal on college campuses, but when it moves toward violence and causing certain students, in this case Jews, to feel in danger in going to the classroom or in danger of their academic life if they’re a student that wants to stand up for a peer of theirs who happens to be a Jew, that’s a problem.”

Meanwhile, legislation intended to reduce anti-Semitism on college campuses has been introduced in the U.S. House. The College Oversight and Legal Updates Mandating Bias Investigations and Accountability — or COLUMBIA — Act would amend the Higher Education Act of 1965 to prohibit institutions of higher education that authorize Anti-Semitic events on campus from participating in the student loan and grant programs of the act.

Although Walberg’s not a co-sponsor of the legislation, he said this week federal dollars shouldn’t go to propaganda programs on campuses.
