Set for June 29 is South Haven’s first ever Pride event.

South Haven Pride founder Trent Morgan tells us Pride in the Park will be all day at Stanley Johnson Park. The city council just approved the event that he says will be family friendly so the whole community can come. There’s plenty planned.

We are going to have a stage where we will have a variety of different things, including a talent show, stand-up comedy, drag performance, just a lot going on on the stage between noon there on the 29th,” Morgan said. “Then we’ll be closing things down about 10 p.m.”

They’ll also have arts and crafts, a gaming tent, selfie stations, and a prom. Morgan says a lot of LGBTQ youths miss out on prom, so they’re getting a do over.

Morgan says Pride events are usually held in places like Grand Rapids or Kalamazoo, but not in South Haven. Morgan wanted to change that.

South Haven never had one. I always just thought that somebody else would organize one, but over the years,  I’ve gotten to thinking like, okay, well, if not me, then who?”

Morgan says the event is being held to show the LGBTQ community in South Haven that the community is there for them. Attendance will be free, although people may want to bring some cash for specific events.

Organizers are looking for donations, sponsors, and volunteers. You can learn more at SouthHavenPride.com.
