Michigan’s marijuana industry is the biggest in the nation.

Brian Hanna, director of the state’s cannabis regulatory agency, says Michigan has the most per capita sales of regulated marijuana in the United States. He credits the success to great communication with dispensaries and customers.

It’s listening to the stakeholders,” Hannah said. “We really do value the industry’s points of view as well as the consumer’s points of view. We have regular meetings with associations, stakeholders, licensees, attorneys, but also consumers. Consumers are part of this too. They want access to safe product, tested, validated, safe consumer product.”

Millions of dollars in taxes on marijuana are going to benefit the state this year. Municipalities and counties are getting $87 million. The school aid fund and the transportation fund have each received $101 million dollars as a result of marijuana sales this year.
