Benton Township Trustees approve $1.2 million water and sewer project

The Benton Township Board of Trustees has approved more than $1.3 million in water and sewer work along Dixie Drive.

Trustees on Tuesday heard from Steve Oosting from Prein and Newhof, a civil engineering firm. He said the project, funded with state Clean Water Revolving Fund loans, will rebuild aging sewer lines that have been on the township’s list for a while.

Also, there’s water system improvements consisting of a new township water main extending along Dixie Drive and continuing beyond the end of Dixie Drive north into the adjacent property, which is Mary City of David,” Oosting said. “They have a private water system currently fed by their own private wells and this project will provide a new source of water supply to supply their system.”

Oosting told us the property is served by a private well, but the well has had some contamination. This will replace the site’s water source.

The project construction came in at $1.2 million with LE Barber Incorporated as the lower of two bidders. The engineering work will cost $174,000.
