There could be a new chair of the Michigan Republican Party.

Former Congressman Pete Hoekstra was elected chair of the Michigan GOP Saturday by the same Republicans who previously voted to oust Chair Kristina Karamo, sparking a fight within the party. Saturday’s vote was not unanimous.

The same group filed a lawsuit Friday in west Michigan to try and force Karamo out of office. She is still claiming the meeting to oust her wasn’t official and continues to act as party chair. She said more to Michigan News Network.

“To try to convince people that I’m not the chair, that I’m incompetent, why would members of the media be so invested in falsely claiming that I’m not the chair? It’s because we have disrupted…we have disrupted a failed status quo.”

Reports say Hoekstra was elected chair over businesswoman Lena Epstein and Vance Patrick, chair of the Oakland County Republican Party.
