Governor Gretchen Whitmer is wrapping up the first year of her second term. She was asked this week if her administration is going to have to raise taxes to accomplish some of the things on her agenda, like improving infrastructure.

“We are making strides, there’s no question,” Whitmer said. “If we talk about taxes, I think it’s important to acknowledge also, in this past year, we’ve given $1 billion in tax relief to Michiganders. In the coming weeks we’re going to see the Working Families Tax Credit show up in peoples’ mailboxes to give more relief.”

Whitmer called this “an exciting time.” She says her administration has been able to cut taxes, make investments and pay down debt that was incurred before she became governor.
