Red Wings 5, Sabres 3 – Dylan Larkin scores 2 as the Red Wings beat the Sabres 5-3 for 3rd straight victory
Dylan Larkin scored twice as the Detroit Red Wings raced to an early lead and held on to beat the Buffalo Sabres 5-3. The Red Wings jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but had to hold off a late Sabres comeback try. Robby Fabbri, Moritz Seider and Michael Rasmussen also scored for the Red Wings, who won their third straight game and for the sixth time in seven games. Alex Lyon made 29 saves. Rasmus Dahlin, Casey Mittelstadt and Jeff Skinner scored for Buffalo. Mike Comrie made 22 saves as the Sabres lost their fourth straight.
Predators 4, Blackhawks 3 – SO – Ryan O’Reilly helps Nashville beat Chicago 4-3 in shootout
Ryan O’Reilly scored in regulation and the shootout, and the Nashville Predators handed Chicago its fourth consecutive loss with a 4-3 victory over the Blackhawks. Gustav Nyquist and Filip Forsberg also converted their chances as Nashville went 3 for 3 in the tiebreaker against Chicago goaltender Arvid Soderblom. Connor Bedard scored in the shootout for Chicago, but Tyler Johnson was stopped by Juuse Saros. Luke Evangelista and Mark Jankowski also scored for Nashville in regulation. Saros made 25 stops in regulation and overtime. Nick Foligno had two goals and an assist for Chicago.

AJ Storr matched a season high with 22 points and Steven Crowl scored a season-high 18 points, leading No. 23 Wisconsin to a 70-57 win over Michigan State on Tuesday night. The Badgers have won six straight and didn’t trail for a second straight game, including a win over then-No. 3 Marquette. The Spartans got off to a bad start and struggled to make 3-pointers, troubling trends for coach Tom Izzo as he searches for answers with a team that was ranked No. 4 in the preseason. Tyson Walker scored 22 points and Hoggard had 14 points, seven assists and two turnovers for the Spartans.
Notre Dame 86, WMU 65 – Davis’ 2nd straight double-double powers Notre Dame past Western Michigan, 86-65
Tae Davis posted his second straight double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead Notre Dame to an 86-65 win over Western Michigan. The sophomore posted his first career double-double in the Fighting Irish’s 62-49 loss to No. 8 Miami on Saturday with 12 points and 10 boards. His 19 points is his career high. In his last three games Davis has scored 46 points and grabbed 28 rebounds. Titus Wright paced Western Michigan (2-6) with 14 points and six rebounds and Seth Hubbard added 13 points. The Broncos were 26 of 63 from the field (41.3%), including 5 of 22 from distance.
Indiana 78, Michigan 75 – Ware has key basket & defensive play in last minute to lift Indiana over Michigan 78-75
Kel’el Ware scored the tie-breaking basket with 55.8 seconds to play and forced a turnover with 2.2 seconds left and Indiana pulled out a 78-75 win over Michigan. Ware’s soft hook made it 75-73 and in the next 53.6 seconds, Michigan made 2 of 4 from the line and Indiana made 3 of 4. After an Indiana free throw with 2.2 seconds left, Ware, on the baseline, timed his jump perfectly to deflect and grab Will Tschetter’s attempt at a court-length pass. Reneau Malik had 15 points to lead the Hoosiers and Mackenzie Mgbako, who made two of the late free throws, added 11. Ware had 13 points. Olivier Nkamhoua scored 18 points and Teschetter had 17 for the Wolverines.

NCAA – NCAA President calls for new tier of Division I where schools can pay athletes
NCAA President Charlie Baker says he wants the association to create a new tier of Division I athletics where highly resourced schools would be required to offer at least half their athletes a payment of at least $30,000 per year. Baker also proposed allowing all Division I schools to offer unlimited educational benefits and enter into name, image and likeness partnerships with athletes. Baker sent a letter to more than 350 Division I schools. He says the disparity in resources between the wealthiest schools and other D-I members is standing in the way of reforming college athletics.
NFL – Roger Goodell says football will become a global sport in a decade
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell says he sees football becoming a global sport within the next decade and that his league is at the forefront of that effort. That includes adding another international market next year for the regular-season schedule. Brazil and Spain are the front-runners. Goodell was speaking at a forum that included officials from Las Vegas teams and events to promote the Super Bowl, which will be played at Allegiant Stadium on Feb. 11. He said the league’s championship game will return to Las Vegas many times after this season.
MLB – Waiting for Shohei: MLB free-agent market slow as Ohtani mulls big money
Big-name free agents appear in no hurry to strike deals at the winter meetings, biding time until Shohei Ohtani potentially breaks the record for richest contract set 4 1/2 years ago by Mike Trout. And Japanese free agent Yoshinobu Yamamoto could be holding up the starting pitching market. Ohtani, the two-way unicorn who has won two of the last three AL MVP awards for the Los Angeles Angels, is expected to get a deal topping $500 million — Trout’s contract was for $426.5 million over 12 years. And that’s with Ohtani sidelined from pitching until 2025 following elbow surgery.
USA Soccer – Teenager Jaedyn Shaw helps the US women to a 2-1 victory over China
Jaedyn Shaw scored the go-ahead goal in the 79th minute to give the United States a 2-1 comeback victory over China on Tuesday night in the Americans’ final match of the year. It was the second of two exhibition matches against China. The United States won the first 3-0 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Saturday. Shaw’s second international goal came in front of her hometown crowd in Frisco. The 19-year old was making her first start for the national team.

- Brandywine overcame a 9 point deficit at halftime to outscore Lakeshore 35-15 in the second half in a 54-44 win on the Lancers home floor. Jamier Palmer scored 15 points to lead the Bobcats. Jeremiah Palmer had 14 and Byron Linley had 10. Alex Toothman and Cohen Hurdle had 10 points each to led Lakeshore.
