The United States Postal Service reports they are in the process of finalizing the termination of their property lease at Orchards Mall. This follows the temporary suspension of service the USPS announced for the site last September.
At the time of suspending service, the USPS issued a statement saying, “To ensure the safety of both postal customers and employees, the Orchards Mall Post Office, 1800 Pipestone Rd, Benton Harbor… is temporarily suspended beginning September 13, 2023 due to safety conditions.”
That temporary suspension of service at the mall location is now permanent and a spokesperson for the USPS confirms they will begin the process to search for a new site.
Customers are currently directed to continue retrieving their PO Box mail at the Benton Harbor Post Office, located 3.8 miles away, during regular retail hours. The Benton Harbor Post Office that remains in operation is at 525 Riverview Drive in Benton Harbor.
