Holiday shopping season is in full swing, and more people are choosing to buy their gifts at local stores.

According to a new survey from Bankrate, only 39% of people plan to do their holiday shopping online this year.

Andrea Bitley is with the Michigan Retailers Association. She says the holiday shopping season makes or breaks most businesses.

“Our local businesses are heavily dependent on this time of year,” Bitely said. “Between Halloween and Christmas Eve, our businesses go from operating in the red, which means they are not making money, to operating in the black, which means they can pay their bills for the year.”

Bitley says the holiday shopping season is trending toward being very profitable for businesses across the state.
