NCAAFB – Ohio St., UGA, Michigan, FSU are CFP top 4
Ohio State, Georgia, Michigan and Florida State sat atop the season’s first College Football Playoff rankings, with unbeaten Washington and Oregon next. The NCAA is investigating a sign-stealing scheme that allegedly involved impermissible in-person scouting by Michigan. Selection committee chairman Boo Corrigan said the allegations against Michigan were not part of the debate about where the Wolverines should be ranked. He called it an NCAA issue, not a CFP issue.

CMU 37, NIU 31 – Nahree Biggins’ late interception seals Central Michigan’s 37-31 win over Northern Illinois
Jase Bauer threw for one touchdown and rushed for two more, Marion Lukes had 202 yards rushing and a score, and Central Michigan held off Northern Illinois 37-31 on a snowy Tuesday night. Bauer gave CMU a 37-11 lead with 6:32 remaining in the third quarter. But NIU answered two plays later when Rocky Lombardi connected with Trayvon Rudolph on a 72-yard score to begin a stretch of 20 straight points. The NIU defense forced a three-and-out with 1:42 remaining in the fourth to get another chance on offense. But the Huskies turned it over on third down when Nahree Biggins made his first interception of the season. NIU finished 0 for 10 on third down.
NCAAFB – CMU investigating whether Michigan staffer was on its sideline scouting MSU
Central Michigan is investigating whether Michigan football staffer Connor Stalions was on its sideline scoping out Michigan State during the Chippewas’ season opener in September. Photos circulating on the internet suggest that Stalions was on the sideline during the game. Stalions has since been suspended by Michigan amid an NCAA investigation into whether the Wolverines broke scouting rules. CMU athletic director Amy Folan says the school is checking into the photos.
NCAAFB – Sanders says NCAA or Rose Bowl should reimburse Colorado players
Colorado coach Deion Sanders believes the NCAA or the Rose Bowl should step in and reimburse his players for the items that went missing from the Buffaloes’ locker room while they played at No. 20 UCLA over the weekend. Police in Pasadena, California, continue to conduct interviews, review video and assess what valuables were reported missing. Sanders is helping by compiling a list of what was lost by players and staff members. Sanders says that while they may not be able to get back the items, there should be a way to compensate players. He called on the NCAA to help out.

Rangers 11, Diamondbacks 7 – Semien’s 5 RBIs, Seager’s home run lead Rangers over Diamondbacks 11-7
Marcus Semien’s two-run triple and three-run homer powered Texas to a 10-run lead by the third inning, Corey Seager hit another long home run and the Rangers beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 11-7 to move ahead three games to one in the World Series. Texas improved to a record 10-0 on the road this postseason and closed within one win of the first title in the 63-season history of a franchise that started as the expansion Washington Senators in 1961. Nathan Eovaldi tries to clinch the third all-wild card World Series on Wednesday night against Zac Gallen in a rematch of Game 1 starters. The Rangers built a 10-0 cushion and became the first team in Series history with consecutive five-run innings. Jonah Heim also homered for Texas.

MLB – Rangers Adolis García and Max Scherzer to miss the rest of the World Series
Texas Rangers slugger Adolis García and pitcher Max Scherzer will miss the rest of the World Series after getting hurt in Game 3 against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Infielder/outfielder Ezequiel Durán and left-hander Brock Burke were added to the active roster before Game 4. García and Scherzer are ineligible to return. García, the AL Championship Series MVP, has a moderate strain of his left oblique, according to manager Bruce Bochy. Scherzer, who had been in line to pitch a possible Game 7, has a muscle spasm on the right side of his back.

NFL – Commanders trade Chase Young to the 49ers and Montez Sweat to the Bears
The Washington Commanders have traded Montez Sweat to the Chicago Bears for a 2024 second-round pick and Chase Young to the San Francisco 49ers for a third-rounder next year. Sending away their top two pass rushers signals a major shift into a rebuild for the Commanders under new ownership. Washington has lost five of six games since starting the season 2-0. The moves give the team five picks in the first three rounds of the draft.
NFL- Browns trade wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones to the Lions
The Browns didn’t do anything at the trade deadline to help them this season. Despite the need for a backup quarterback, Cleveland made just one move, trading wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones to the Detroit Lions for a sixth-round draft pick in 2025. Peoples-Jones had 61 receptions last season, but the Detroit native has just eight for 97 yards in seven games. The Browns added wide receivers Elijah Moore, Marquise Goodwin and Cedric Tillman this past offseason, pointing to Peoples-Jones potentially moving on. The 24-year-old gives the Lions some needed depth at receiver. Cleveland was thought to be looking for another backup QB with Deshaun Watson sidelined with a shoulder injury.
NFL – Lions couldn’t be happier to hit the bye week after 6-2 start
Coach Dan Campbell couldn’t have picked a better week for his Detroit Lions to get a bye. Coming off Monday’s 26-14 win over the Las Vegas Raiders, the 6-2 Lions have a full week to rest before getting ready to play the Los Angeles Chargers on Nov. 12. “This is perfect timing — this is exactly what you want from a bye week,” Campbell said Monday. “We’ve been at it for eight weeks — 13 if you count training camp — so it couldn’t have come at a better time."
