It was a never before seen day for Washington Tuesday. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy was voted out of the job, a first in U.S. history.
Oakland University professor Dave Dulio wrote an opinion piece for USA Today, saying Democrats should’ve voted to keep McCarthy.
“I wrote that piece as I was watching and almost predicting what would happen,” Dulio said. “As the report noted, Kevin McCarthy has been ousted, and I thought suggesting that Democrats might help him out might be good for the country, would be good for our politics. We are in this rancorous, divided time.”
The Republicans who led the efforts to remove McCarthy weren’t happy with him after he worked with Democrats to pass a stopgap funding bill to avoid a government shutdown.
However, it was only a handful of Republicans who wanted McCarthy gone. They got help from Democrats to force him out.
