There will be some traffic signal improvements along Pipestone Street in Benton Harbor following action this week by city commissioners. They voted to accept a Carbon Reduction Surface Transportation Program grant of $155,000 for the work. It will include the removal and replacement of the traffic signal controller and cabinet, new video detection cameras, replacing the traffic signals with LEDs, replacing the pedestrian signals with count-down signals, and replacing the pedestrian push buttons. Upgrades will take place at the Pipestone intersections of Wall Street, Jefferson Street, Britain, and Empire. The project’s total cost will be $193,000 with the city paying the rest.
