It’s that time of year again when Berrien County holds its tax-foreclosed land auction. More than 100 parcels are up for sale including vacant land, house lots, and one business parcel.

This year’s auction is entirely online and initial bids are being accepted now.

After the initial bidding period, live bidding begins Thursday, August 3 where people can see the current high bids for each lot and choose to increase their bid or stay silent. All bidding closes at 7:00 pm that day. Winning bidders have five days to pay for the property.

County Treasurer Shelly Weich says the land sale is about meeting the county’s obligation to return tax-delinquent properties to the tax rolls.

“It is in the county’s interest to have these back with active ownership again. We want these back on the tax roll, to have tax (receipts) for the local municipalities, your schools, your police, your fire… everyone involved with taxes.”

You can register for the auction and see the full list of the properties at https://www.tax-sale.info/auctions. There is also a frequently asked questions section for full details.
