Did a tornado touch down in west Michigan Wednesday night? National Weather Service Meteorologist T.J. Turnage says they investigated reports of high winds and storm damage in Van Buren County to see if a tornado may have touched down.
“We just weren’t sure whether it was related to a tornado or not, and so one of our meteorologists went down there to check it out and he wasn’t able to find anything conclusive,” Turnage said. “It’s one of those things were you can’t say it absolutely didn’t happen, but you can’t say it absolutely did happen, either.”
What has been confirmed is an EF1 in southwest Michigan near Colon in St. Joseph County. Storm chasers reported they saw a funnel cloud in the area. The National Weather Service says the tornado was on the ground for nearly three miles. There were reports of tornadoes in the Chicago area.
