An open house for the Unified Civic Monuments Project will be held this Thursday. The project is seeking to build monuments to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in both Benton Harbor and St. Joseph. Backers have been raising funds for more than a year now and have collected 70% of their $850,000 goal. Everyone is invited to stop by the African American History and Literature Gallery in Benton Harbor on Thursday to learn more about the project. The open house will run from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. The gallery can be found at 725 Broadway. The monuments will be installed at Dwight P. Mitchell City Center Park in Benton Harbor and at the Upton Arboretum in St. Joseph. The latest renderings of the designs and sites will be available at the open house.
