An accused murderer is finally headed to trial about 17 months after allegedly killing another man in Benton Harbor.

The trial of Ricky Lorenzo Bridgeman – who is accused of killing 33-year-old Benton Harbor man Darquinn James on November 22, 2021 – is set to go to trial for open murder and other charges starting Monday, June 20, according to Berrien County Assistant Prosecutor Ross Holec.

Following the incident, Police said Bridgeman went to a house in the 600 block of Highland Avenue, where James was staying. The two got into an argument before Bridgeman shot James multiple times, according to police.

Bridgeman was a wanted fugitive for almost a year before being arrested at a Motel 6 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The arresting officers at the time found drugs and a gun in his motel room.

Additional charges faced include possession of a firearm by a felon, tampering with an electronic device and multiple felony firearms charges.
