1906 The Federated Boys’ Clubs was organized. It is now known as the Boys’ Clubs of America.

 1910 The earth passed through the tail of Halley’s Comet. The comet’s tail was known to contain the toxic gas cyanogen, which led many to believe life on Earth would die when it passed through the tail. It caused panick buying of gas masks and quack “anti-comet pills” and “anti-comet umbrellas.”

1981 Deborah Ann Fountain (Miss New York State) is disqualified for padding her swimsuit bra. She claimed she was just trying to make it fit better.


Music History

 1973 Paul Simon released the single ‘Kodachrome’ named after the Kodak 35mm film Kodachrome. It became a No.2 hit in the US but was not released as a single in Britain, because the BBC would not play the trademarked name.
