Another recall attempt against Benton Harbor Area Schools Board of Education Trustee Trenton Bowens has failed. The Berrien County Election Commission held a clarity hearing Tuesday about this latest recall, which was nearly identical to a previous attempt against Bowens. The commission found the recall should not proceed based on the language submitted by fellow Trustee Elnora Gavin. She said Bowens should be removed for voting against the replacement of a boiler at Benton Harbor High School at a meeting in March. Bowens tells us the commission members said Tuesday the language didn’t address his conduct and would set a precedent. Bowens says he’s excited and will continue to put the students first. He says he voted against the boiler because the board didn’t have enough information, but the board voted a month later to make the purchase. Bowens says he was looking out for the money of the taxpayers.
