Voters in Cass County approved all six proposals on the ballot during Tuesday’s special election.

School operating millage renewals in the Cassopolis, Dowagiac Union and Edwardsburg school districts each passed by a wide margin, according to unofficial results at electionreporting.com. Additional proposals in Jefferson and Newberg townships also passed.

In the Cassopolis school district, 503 voters were in favor of the 10-year renewal, while 197 voted against the proposal. Dowagiac Union district voters approved a two part millage that includes an increase of .5 mills to restore the millage to the full 18 mills allowed by law after the Headlee Amendment rollback. Their renewal was passed 869 to 499, and will run through 2028. In Edwardsburg schools, 931 voters approved the one-year millage renewal, with 473 voting against.

All three renewals are non-homestead millage renewals, which represents industrial, commercial and some agricultural property, as well as second homes. Primary family homes will not be effected.

In Jefferson Township, voters approved a road millage renewal and a new operating millage. The road millage renewal passed by a 2:1 margin, while the operating millage snuck through by just eight votes. A new road millage in Newburg Township also passed by seven votes.
