1947, Jackie Robinson signed his first contract with the Brooklyn Dodgers, making him the First African American in Major League Baseball. He played in a few exhibition games against the Yankees, but his first official MLB game was against the Braves on April 15th.

1970, Apollo 13 blasted off on its mission to the moon. The mission was aborted after an oxygen tank exploded.  The astronauts managed to return safely.

In 1980, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission EEOC commissioned regulations specifically in regard to prohibiting Sexual Harassment.
