1860 A Patent was granted to M.L. Byrn of New York City.

1886 Apache Indian Chief Geronimo was captured by General George Crook and forced to surrender. However, Geronimo managed to escape and continued fighting until he was captured again, ending the Indian Wars in the Southwest.

1912 The first of the famous cherry trees encircling the Tidal Basin in Washington D.C. were planted. They were a gift from Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo City to the city of Washington, D.C. celebrating the growing friendship between the U.S. and Japan. Those trees are beginning to bloom now.

 

Music History:

1972 Elvis Presley recorded his last major hit, ‘Burning Love,’ which became a No.2 hit on the US chart. Written by Dennis Linde and originally recorded by country soul artist Arthur Alexander, who included it on his 1972 self-titled album. It was soon covered and brought to fame by Elvis, becoming his biggest hit single in the United States since ‘Suspicious Minds’ in 1969.
