Earlier this month, a 22-year-old Benton Harbor parolee was arrested on multiple felony drug charges by the Southwest Enforcement Team and Michigan State Police troopers following a traffic stop on Pipestone Road in Benton Township.

When the suspect failed to stop, troopers initially gave chase but soon terminated due to unsafe conditions. The suspect vehicle was later discovered abandoned near Marion and Parker Streets in Benton Harbor, and the suspect was eventually located on foot. A perimeter was established which led to a sighting of the suspect running on foot. After a short pursuit, the suspect was captured and arrested without further incident.

During a search of the suspect’s vehicle, a large quantity of fentanyl and methamphetamine was found packaged for distribution, along with other evidence of narcotic trafficking. The man was lodged at the Berrien County jail on various felony charges including parole violations, flee and elude 3rd degree, resisting and obstructing, maintaining a drug vehicle, and possession with intent to deliver fentanyl and methamphetamine.

Detectives were also assisted by Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety and Benton Township Police Officers. The name of the arrested suspect is being withheld pending court arraignment.
