The power outage numbers have been going up going up statewide. Consumers Energy Thursday had 196,000 outages. Many of the outages were in southern lower Michigan near Jackson, Battle Creek, and Hillsdale. Consumers spokesperson Tracy Wimmer says they have some 300 crews out.

“The biggest concern right now is downed power lines, which we have seen a lot of and we did anticipate, especially in that southern belt of the state that we knew was going to be hit the hardest with the ice and the freezing rain,” Wimmer said. “It’s precisely because of that.”

Wimmer has no estimate when everyone’s power will be restored because of the icy conditions.
