Investigators in Livingston County have cracked a nearly 40-year-old cold murder. 19-year old Christina Castiglione of Redford Township disappeared in 1983 with her body found eight days later. DNA from the scene has now been matched, decades later, to a relative of the suspect, identified as Charles Shaw of Livonia. Detective Sergeant Matt Young with the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department.

“The ex-wife, she believed something like this could have happened at some point during their marriage,” Young said. “She wasn’t overly surprised, and she was more than helpful in bringing this to a resolution. The brother was a bit blown away.”

Shaw died eight months later due to “accidental sexual asphyxiation.” Police are looking into the possibility that Shaw could be linked to other crimes from the early 1980s.
