US officials say an “unidentified object” was shot down by military fighter jets Sunday over Lake Huron. It’s unclear what the object is and where it came from, but Michigan government officials will continue to ask Congress for a full briefing. Congresswoman Debbie Dingell says they have questions.

“We need to protect our national security, we need answers, and we need to let those who can do their jobs. We need answers to many questions,” says Dingell.

U.S. Senator Gary Peters said on Twitter he will continue pressing the Department of Defense for answers and transparency, while Congressman Jack Bergman said he appreciates the “decisive action” by fighter pilots but adds the American people “deserve far more answers.” Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin, a former CIA employee, says officials had been following it since it appeared over the Upper Peninsula.

According to reports, officials say the object is believed to be the same one that was tracked and monitored over Montana by the government. Two aerial objects were shot down over Alaska and Canada because they were flying at altitudes that posed a threat to commercial aircraft, and a Chinese spy balloon was shot down off the South Carolina coast.
