The national weather service of Northern Indiana issued a high wind watch for southwest Michigan. Starting early Thursday morning, damaging winds are expected to persist through the area until Thursday evening.

Winds will be blowing out of the southwest with frequent gusts of 45 to 55 MPH, according to the weather service. Isolated gusts of 60 MPH are also possible, with steady winds of 25 to 35 MPH.

“Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines,” the advisory states. “Power outages are possible. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.”

Officials with the NWS are advising residents to fasten loose objects or shelter objects in a safe location prior to the onset of winds.

Additionally, the NWS of Grand Rapids has issued a Gale Watch and Small Craft Advisory for vessels on Lake Michigan from St. Joseph to Manistee.
