The public hearing scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday to discuss the proposed development of the Nye’s Apple Barn property has been postponed, St. Joseph Charter Township announced Tuesday afternoon.

According to Township Manager Denise Cook, the meeting was postponed due to an error with the number of days the meeting legally needed to be published in the newspaper.

Cook said she had not heard when the hearing would be rescheduled, or when the planning commission would make that decision.

Last October, plans for a new development at the Nye’s Apple Barn property in St. Joseph Charter Township were put on hold after residents packed the township hall to voice their opposition.

The township planning commission ultimately tabled the issue due to missing items on the planned unit development application. Developers were set to get another chance to put their proposal before the planning commission Tuesday, but will now have to wait – as will residents.

The proposed development – which would sit at the 12-acre property on Niles Road, just off I-94, Exit 27 – included plans for restaurants, a gas station, a convenience store and an apartment complex.
