1908 U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt declared the Grand Canyon a national monument declaring, “Let this great wonder of nature remain as it now is. Do nothing to mar its grandeur, sublimity and loveliness. You cannot improve on it.”
1964 A report of the Advisory Committee to the Surgeon General was published on Smoking and Health warning of the health issues of tobacco smoking. Although not the first government report on the health effects of smoking, it is considered one of the most influential resulting in laws such as health warnings on cigarette packaging.

1964 – ‘Louie Louie’ by The Kingsmen was the No.1 song on the US Cash Box music chart. For a while, the record was banned by a handful of US radio stations because of its indecipherable lyrics, which were rumored to contain some naughty words. Even the F.B.I. investigated the song, but finally concluded that they could find nothing wrong.
