The Michigan State Police Missing Children’s Clearinghouse is inviting fifth grade students statewide to take part in the 2023 National Missing Children’s Day Poster Contest. The clearinghouse’s Jolene Hardesty tells us the contest is held each year, inviting students to submit posters with the theme of Bringing Our Missing Children Home.

“We use it to open up the conversation with parents about what does a missing child look like? How do we help find missing kids? How do we reach out to kids that maybe are contemplating running away? What resources do we have as a community to help them out and bring us all together and help find all these missing children so they can come home with their loved ones and be safe.”

The winning state entry will be entered into the National Missing Children’s Day Poster Contest. Hardesty says last year’s state winner was a boy from metro Detroit. Michigan’s entries won the national missing children’s poster contest in 2015 and 2018. Hardesty says the phrase, “Bringing Our Missing Children Home” must appear on the poster and the posters have to be 8.5 by 14 inches. They must be postmarked by January 27. We have the address to send in an entry at our website.

Contest rules are as follows:

Applicants must be in the fifth grade.
Original artwork should reflect the theme “Bringing Our Missing Children Home” and the phrase must appear somewhere on the poster.
Digitally produced images, collages, cut-outs, and stamping will not be eligible for consideration.
The finished poster must measure 8½ x 14 inches.

The poster must be submitted with a completed application which includes a description of the artwork and a brief biography of the artist, either written or typed. Submissions are due to be postmarked by Jan. 27, 2023, and must be mailed to:
