Fairness for farmers is what the Michigan Farmers Union is calling for as the group kicks off its annual convention today in St. Johns.
“That is an effort to eliminate or at least try to reduce the power of the multi-national conglomerates that control a significant amount of your meat processing, your seed companies, your equipment dealers.”
That’s Farmers Union President Bob Thompson, who is calling on Governor Whitmer and other state officials to give more support to the family farmers in Michigan, which might have a 500 acre farm, as opposed to corporate-owned farms that can be up 50,000 acres.
