Gas prices have jumped 19¢ in Michigan over the last week to a statewide average of $4.36 a gallon. Triple-A Michigan’s Adrienne Woodland explains some of the reasons why.

“Prices in Michigan started to increase a couple weeks ago when there was some unplanned refinery maintenance in the Midwest along with that refinery fire near Toledo. That is still having an effect on our prices and certainly had an effect on the supply of gasoline in our region.”

Woodland says crude oil prices are up and there’s an increased demand for gasoline. The most expensive gas price averages in Michigan are in Lansing, Saginaw and Flint, all at $4.43 a gallon. The cheaper prices are in metro Detroit, Traverse City and Benton Harbor.
