A new mural in honor of Olympic medalist and Buchanan native Hannah Roberts will be unveiled next week. Buchanan Community Development Director Richard Murphy says in a promotional video the community teamed up with artist Jeff Zimmerman for the new mural on the side of the Honor Credit Union at 117 Red Bud Trail.
“This is about 100 feet long by 15 feet tall,” Murphy said. “It’s going to be filled with a really exciting subject matter. We’ll give you a little teaser. The subject matter is going to be Buchanan’s hometown hero and BMX Olympian Hannah Roberts.”
The mural shows Hannah Roberts taking to the air with a BMX. She won a silver medal in the Women’s BMX Freestyle at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. Murphy says her story shows anyone can start out in a small town and go on to achieve on the world stage. The dedication of the new mural will be next Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Honor Credit Union in Buchanan.
