Detroit Police Chief James White has released the body cam footage from Sunday morning’s shooting death of 22-year-old Porter Burks. Five officers fired 38 shots at him when he wouldn’t drop a knife.
“Very tragic situation. Certainly again not the desired outcome,” said White.
Fifteen of the shots hit Burks.
“Officers also on the scene had to assess the threat and and stop the threat. There’s no time in 3 seconds when someone is charging at you with a knife to look over to see what other people are doing,” added White.
Police were called to the scene for Burks facing a mental health crisis. His family members are saying people should not call police in that sort of situation.
