The two big lottery jackpots have reached a combined half a billion dollars with no big winner yet this week. Tonight’s Powerball is $251 million and Friday’s Mega Millions jackpot is $301 million. What are your chances of winning?
“The odds to win the jackpot are roughly one in 300 million,” says the Michigan Lottery Commission’s Jake Harris. “It’s rough odds but the only guarantee with lottery is you can’t win if you don’t buy a ticket. So, there’s no guarantee that you’re going to win, but you can guarantee you’re not going to win by not purchasing a ticket.”
Harris says if you win, the lump sum cash payment for the Powerball is $135 million and about $150 million for the Mega Millions.
